WHO WE ARE
Welcome to Ìyá ni wúrà – the quarterly book box subscription service for Black mothers and their children. Our name is of Yoruba descent and means “Mother is as precious as gold”. We believe that mothers deserve to indulge in self-care and spend quality time with their children while exploring the rich diversity of literature by Black authors.
Our mission is to provide you and your child with a diverse and inclusive reading experience that reflects the richness of the Black experience. Our curated selection of books by Black authors is designed to showcase a wide range of voices, experiences, and perspectives, with an emphasis on discovering emergent and diverse voices from Africa, the Caribbean, and across the diaspora.
From board books for your little ones to young adult novels for your pre-teens and teens, our boxes cater to a wide range of reading levels and interests.
Every book box supports 4 to 5 Black-owned businesses, and includes a carefully selected assortment of books, bookmarks, activity sheets, and other surprises that will keep your child engaged and excited about reading. Plus, as a member of our community, you’ll have access to exclusive events, author interviews, and more.
